The history of the white coat dates back to the late 19th century, when doctors and scientists first began wearing them to protect themselves from hazardous substances. Since then, the white coat has come to symbolise the professionalism of the scientific and medical community, as well as their commitment to healthcare professions.
The first official white coat ceremony was held in 1993 at Columbia University in New York. Since then, this tradition has spread worldwide in healthcare education. For students, this ceremony is a significant milestone, similar to receiving their diploma, and one of the most anticipated and memorable moments of their studies.
The first White Coat Ceremony at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Pharmacy will take place on February 21, 2025, at 16:00. On this day, second-year students will don their newly acquired white coats in a formal ceremony. The event marks a new chapter in the lives of pharmacy and biotechnology students in Pécs, a fitting celebration of their achievements to date and a source of motivation for further success in their studies.
The Faculty's leadership warmly invites the celebrated students, their families, and all interested parties to the ceremony!
