Saving Lives, Drop by Drop: A Successful Blood Donation Organised by the Faculty of Pharmacy

Yesterday

A blood donation is much more than a simple formality. Each donation embodies compassion, a sense of responsibility, and genuine willingness to help. For the first time, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pécs joined this noble cause, demonstrating its commitment to community responsibility.

The Faculty’s inaugural blood donation day on 4th of December exceeded expectations. The event saw participation from staff, faculty members, and a remarkable number of students—many of whom were donating blood for the very first time.

One pharmacy student with a rare blood type emphasised the importance of helping others, saying:

"With just one blood donation, we can help multiple people, and anyone could find themselves in a situation where they need blood."

Such sentiments highlight that even the younger generation understands the importance of extending a helping hand.

Dr Alexandra Papp, a staff member at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, also participated in the event, sharing her personal perspective on the significance of blood donation.

"This gesture always reminds me of how crucial it is to help others. That’s why I decided to take part,"

she explained, recalling a life-saving moment when an unknown blood donor provided urgent help for her grandmother’s surgery.

Thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of the participants, the Faculty leadership is already planning to make blood donations a regular initiative, aiming to involve even more people in this meaningful endeavour.
