Topic
The subject introduces the basics of genetics and the basic principles of inheritance (e.g. Mendelian and non-Mendelian inheritance, sex-linked inheritance, etc.). During the course, the properties, methodologies, and statistical background of linkage studies are discussed (e.g. allele frequency, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, etc.). The course describes the characteristics, structure, and variations of the genome of the important model animals used in biotechnology. The course gives an overview of the molecular mechanism and regulation of gene expression in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The course presents the basic technologies applied in genetics; during the practice, students will become familiar with these methods.
