On 21 February, the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Pécs held its first-ever White Coat Ceremony. During the event, third-year pharmacy students and second-year biotechnology students received their white coats, symbolising their commitment to their profession. The ceremony aimed to recognise their achievements and provide motivation for the continuation of their studies.

The student-led event, marking the beginning of a new tradition, was held in the prestigious Dr. György Romhányi Aula at the Medical School of the University of Pécs. In his opening speech, Dr. András Fittler, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, illustrated the significance of the occasion through the allegory of a journey.

"This White Coat Ceremony represents a turning point in your journey towards becoming professionals. Today, we celebrate your dedication and efforts in reaching this defining milestone. It is also a moment of recognition – both for yourselves and for those around you – that you are capable and on the right path. The white coat is a tangible representation of a trusted professional. It signifies scientific authority, purity, and integrity. It symbolises compassion, commitment to patient care, and dedication to the well-being of society," - the Dean stated in his address.

The closing speech was delivered by Dr. Zsuzsanna Rozmer, Vice Dean for Education and Student Welfare. She highlighted that the students had reached the halfway point in their studies, having completed their foundational subjects. At this stage, their acquired knowledge begins to merge with science, practical experience, and professional identity.

"As pharmacists, you will not merely dispense or develop medicines – you will be the link between medical science and patients. Wearing the white coat is a symbol, a reminder that applying your knowledge and skills is not just an opportunity but a responsibility," -the Vice Dean emphasised.

Following the speeches, students stepped forward one by one to receive their personalised white coats from their professors, who congratulated them with a handshake. With smiles on their faces, they returned to their seats, proud of this significant milestone, as their families joined in the celebration.

"The white coat is not only a symbol of professional excellence but also a reminder of the challenges that come with this profession. It represents our duty to contribute to scientific and clinical advancements and to use our knowledge for the benefit of humanity. I am certain that this ceremony has been an inspiring experience for all my fellow students, motivating us to study, research, and even teach with even greater dedication," reflected Levente Láng, a second-year biotechnology student who, along with his peers, donned the white coat on this memorable day.
