Record attendance at the joint Open Day of Medical School and Faculty of Pharmacy of Pécs

19 December 2024

Nearly 1,500 visitors attended the joint open day of the University of Pécs Medical School and Faculty of Pharmacy, marking a record turnout. The prospective students were not only provided with detailed information about the programmes but were also highly engaged by a presentation on the 2025 admissions process. Additionally, interactive workshops offered hands-on insights into the lives of doctors, dentists, biotechnologists, and pharmacists.

At the open day, the halls of both the old and new theoretical blocks of the Pécs Medical School were filled with an array of booths welcoming prospective applicants. Students received comprehensive information about the programmes, institutes, and the various scientific opportunities available during their studies. They were also introduced to scholarship options.

The event also featured presentations from specialised student organisations, such as academic colleges, the Student Research Society, the Pécs Medical Students' Association, and mentoring programmes. Additionally, the health programme YourLife@ÁOK and the student newspaper Confabula were on display.

Participants explored the undergraduate and master's programmes in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and biotechnology through specialised presentations. Essential details regarding the 2025 admissions process were shared in informative lectures, attracting an audience far exceeding expectations.

The Largest Open Day Turnout Yet

“Online registration already indicated a significant interest in this year’s open day, but we did not expect to break last year’s record of 1,200 attendees. Yet, we did just that, with nearly 1,500 visitors from across the country joining the event,”

- said Dr. Zsófia Duga, Head of Marketing and Communications at the Medical School of PTE.

She highlighted that the admissions process and the scoring system were particularly popular topics, as staying up-to-date with the latest information is essential in these areas. Alongside the students, many parents also attended, reflecting a growing trend of family involvement in such events.

According to Dr. Duga, there was significant interest in the general medical programme, while enthusiasm for dentistry, biotechnology, and pharmacy courses also increased. The presentations detailed how a degree from Pécs Medical School or Faculty of Pharmacy can lead to versatile and rewarding career paths.

Hands-On Experiences and Premiering a New Film

In addition to the information sessions, the institutes of the Medical School and Faculty of Pharmacy organised numerous interactive workshops. Students practised suturing techniques, examined tissue samples under microscopes, learned CPR on simulation mannequins, and even tried their hand at filling cavities.

A cinematic treat awaited visitors in the main lecture hall: the premiere of the new promotional film for the Medical School and Faculty of Pharmacy was a highlight of the day.
